January 2017 – Father Benno’s Homeless Clothing Drive
In January, TIS hosted a Warm Winter Collection for Brother Benno’s Center in San Diego. TIS team members, Anni Hallmark and Berta Pinon, had the distinct pleasure of gathering team contributions from our San Diego and Temecula offices, and then donating the gently used winter items, like blankets, socks, caps, scarves, sweaters, and coats, to the Brother Benno’s Thrift Store. After meeting with the Center staff, Anni commented, “It was wonderful thing…to [help] those less fortunate in our community!” And Brother Benno’s volunteers were so gracious and excited for the assistance. “On behalf of the Brother Benno Foundation, thank you so very much for collecting blankets and coats for the needy,” said Belinda, a Center volunteer.
Brother Benno’s is a nonprofit organization devoted to servicing the needs of the Oceanside community. Their goal is to make sure that no one in the area goes hungry, goes without shelter or clothing, nor goes without someone to care for them. They help patrons gain self-sufficiency, and they never rely on government funding to accomplish their mission. Brother Benno’s opened their doors in 1983 as a soup kitchen. Since that time, they have expanded their services by creating a larger dining room, and adding a thrift store, children’s library, shower rooms, computer rooms, and a chapel. They are now better able to aid poor seniors, the disabled, and homeless. Brother Benno’s motto is: “Uplifting the dignity of those we serve.” For more information, or to donate to this worthy cause, please call 760-439-1244 or visit: www.brotherbenno.org.
